Long Island Jobs with Justice Campaigns:

Long Island Bus Riders' Union
Long Island Bus Riders’ Union is an organization of Nassau County bus riders and public transit advocates that supports affordable, equitable, and accessible mass transportation. The Bus Riders’ Union originated with the Coalition to Save Long Island Bus and is a project of Long Island Jobs with Justice. For more information, go to our BRU website at www.longislandbusridersunion.org

Equal Education and Employment Campaign
65,000 undocumented students graduate from high school each year. The young people came to the U.S. as children and many face serious financial and legal obstacles towards obtaining a higher education. This Campaign is twofold: first, we educate students on their right to an education, and second we educate guidance counselors and administrators on the current laws, which guarantee that all New Yorkers can receive an education. This project is staffed by Organizer Anita Halasz. Please email her if you'd like to becoming involved.

Getting Our Money's Worth (GO$W)
Getting Our Money's Worth is a statewide campaign of Jobs with Justice. New York State spends $8.2 billion dollars each year on lavish corporate subsidies, but these investments too often fail to create the good jobs New Yorkers need and leave local communities without much needed revenue. It’s time we get our money’s worth from economic development programs. Long Island Jobs with Justice has joined with labor unions, community groups, people of faith, and business all over NYS in calling for accountability and transparency in economic development. Our GO$W Coalition is a watchdog coalition for economic development on Long Island. We organize Press Conferences, Rallies, and other events. Email us for more information.

The AMOS Project
The AMOS Project (A Movement of Solidarity) is the community-outreach campaign of LI Jobs with Justice that aims to create a “coalition of conscience” among faith, labor and community-service organizations.  The major goal of this coalition is public education and advocacy for and with working people to address the public policies as well as the economic systems and structures that cause worker injustices and poverty and Long Island.

Support for Verizon Workers
In one of the largest strikes in the past five years, 45,000 CWA and IBEW went on strike against Verizon. Met with unfair negotiations and the challenges of corporate greed, Verizon workers were on strike for nearly two weeks. In the struggle to safeguard jobs security and protect health and pension benefits, the strikers returned to work, but the struggle is far from over. We have adopted two Verizon stores, one in Massapequaand one in Suffolk County (at Smithhaven Mall in Lake Grove) and we are organizing support every day 5-7pm and on Saturdays from 10am-6pm. If you'd like to join us, please email here.

How We Work:

Solidarity
Jobs with Justice was formed and continues to be built on the principle of solidarity—“being there” for someone else’s struggle as well as your own. For nearly a decade now, we have “been there” for people who are fighting for their rights in the workplace and for more livable communities. We frequently lend our support and work in coalition with other organizations on campaigns that build the movement for social and economic justice. If you have a local campaign that you would like us to support, please let us know.

Workers' Rights Board
The Workers’ Rights Board is made up of leaders from a wide range of backgrounds, and seeks to enhance the rights of all workers. Our Board Members provide a moral voice on issues of economic justice through a community-based forum in which workplace grievances can be heard by the broader public. Workers’ Rights Boards across the country have had success in enhancing and securing democratic rights for workers. If you are interested in having our Workers' Rights Board investigate a local campaign, email us.
